Browse Full Report with TOC:

The trauma fixation devices can be categorized in two segments namely external trauma fixation devices and internal trauma fixation devices. External trauma fixation devices are used for temporary fracture fixation and help in providing support to the affected bone while their healing process. Since these fixation devices are applied externally, can be adjusted as per the individual requirements of the patient. Owing to the underdevelopment of the bones, this procedure is preferred in pediatric trauma cases. In addition, they are also applied on those patients whose skin over fracture has been damaged.

Internal fixation devices are helpful in fixing fractured bones in definite shape by implanting different devices. These devices includes various intramedullary nails, cannulated screws, hip screws, wires, cables, conventional hip screws, pins and plates. The materials utilized to build these devices are majorly made of stainless steel, cobalt and titanium. Internal fixation devices are gaining popularity over the external fixation devices, hence the demand for internal fixation devices are increasing. This is due to the fact that the raw materials utilized in manufacturing internal fixation devices are durable, stable and flexible which provide necessary support to the bone and results in quick recovery from the medical condition. In addition, it also reduces stay in hospitals and improper bone healing. All these mentioned parameters result in high growth rate of internal fixation devices during the forecast period 2013 to 2019.

Rise in geriatric population across the globe will augment the growth of trauma fixation devices since elderly people possess higher risk for osteoporosis that will propel the demand for utilization of trauma fixation devices. It has been estimated by the World Health Organization (WHO) that global elderly population was around 524 million in 2010 and is expected to grow to reach around 2,000 million by 2050. Increasing number of accidents throughout the world will further boost the growth of trauma fixation devices market. Recently, the U.S. reported around 42 million trauma cases. These trauma patients required immediate medical treatment (trauma fixation devices implantation) to recover from trauma.

Increased disposable income and awareness in developed nations such as U.S. and U.K. have also contributed in the growth of trauma fixation devices market, since high disposable income increases the affordability for availing these medical services. Despite various advantages, growth of trauma fixation devices market may get hindered owing to infection and allergy associated with the utilization of external and internal trauma fixation devices. Similarly, high cost of these devices will also reduce the utilization of these devices and in turn will restrain the growth of trauma fixation devices market in developing nations (with low disposable income) such as India, China and Brazil.

North America followed by Europe accounts for the largest share of total trauma fixation devices market owing to large patient population coupled with high disposable income of the population in the regions. Asia-Pacific is expected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecast period due to increasing healthcare expenditure in the nations such as India and China. High growth rate of geriatric population in the region will further support the growth of trauma fixation devices market. It has been estimated by WHO that around 12% of total Chinese population and 300 million of Indians will belong to elderly population by 2050. The major players operating in trauma fixation devices market include Bioretec, Inc., Medtronic, Inc., Advanced Orthopaedic Solutions and Integra LifeSciences Corporation amongst other significant players.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Market - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends And Forecast, 2013 - 2019

Transparency Market Research Reports included a detailed market survey and analysis trends on “Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Market”. This report also includes more info about basic overview of the industry including definitions, applications and global market industry structure. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive optical diagnostic technique. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is based on the principle of inferometry, which employs near infrared light to create a cross-sectional view of the retina. OCT captures three-dimensional images of the biological tissue with micrometer-resolution that is accurate to within 10 to 15 microns.

OCT devices are designed to precision so that the sample light and reference light are only coherent when the path distances are closely matched. OCT devices have a sample arm and a reference arm. The sample arm of the system provides light to the patient sample (e.g. retina), and collects the light dispersed from the sample. This light collected from the sample is then mixed with the light that is reflected from the reference arm of the device. On the contrary to ultrasound, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging does not require any physical contact with the patient which makes it a safe and effective diagnostic imaging tool. Owing to its advance three dimensional imaging ability, OCT has gained wide popularity as a powerful diagnostic tool in the fields of oncology, dermatology and endoscopic diagnosis.

Based on technology the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) market can be segmented as follows:
  • Time Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (TDOCT)
  • Frequency Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (FD-OCT)
  • Spatially Encoded Frequency Domain Optical Coherence Tomography
    • Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SDOCT)
    • Fourier Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (FDOCT)
Some of the types of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) devices used in various areas of diagnostic imaging are as follows:
  • Catheter based OCT devices

  • Annular volume scan
  • Radial volume scan
  • Raster or rectangular volume scan
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is particularly useful in diagnosing many eye conditions, which includes:
  • Age-related macular degeneration
  • Central serous retinopathy
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Macular edema
  • Macular hole
  • Macular pucker
  • Vitreomacular traction
  • Preretinal membranes
In the geographical perspective, North America followed by Europe are the leading markets for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) owing to the rising aging population and high adoption rate. The geriatric population has grown significantly around the world. According to the WHO, population above 65 years has grown the fastest. This population is expected to increase from 13% in 2010 to 53% by 2020.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of people above 65 years to every 100 people of the working age is projected to increase greatly from 22 in 2010 to almost 35 in 2020. This huge geriatric population would also face various ophthalmologic complications such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration, amongst other. However, owing to the economic development and high awareness rate, other regions such as Asia-Pacific and Latin America are also expected to be the potential markets in the near future.

The primary factors contributing in the growth of the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) market is growing aging population and extensive application scope of the technology. Moreover, technological benefits of OCT such as ability to visualize in-depth structures of the eye, mucosal membranes, surface tissues and vascular systems; is significantly driving the growth of the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) market. Furthermore, extensive use of OCT devices in drug discovery and development for imaging biological tissues at the molecular level are also contributing in the growth of the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) market. However, restraining factors such as lack of reimbursement facilities and insufficient clinical data might impede the growth of the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) market.

Transparency Market Research Reports included a detailed market survey and analysis trends on “Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) Devices Market”. This report also includes more info about basic overview of the industry including definitions, applications and global market industry structure. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is a medical imaging methodology using a specially designed catheter with miniaturized ultrasound probe attached to the distal end. The proximal end of the catheter is attached to computerized ultrasound equipment.

It allows application of ultrasonic technology to visualize the blood vessels internally through surrounding blood column. The arteries of the heart (the coronary arteries) are the most frequent imaging target for IVUS. The application of IVUS in coronary arteries is to determine the amount of atheromatous plaque built up at any particular point in epicardial coronary artery. Built up plaque obstructs the blood flow, disturbs the normal blood pressure in body and raises coronary heart complications (e.g. Stenosis). IVUS is a valuable adjunct to angiography, providing new insights in the diagnosis and therapy for coronary diseases. An angiography depicts only 2D silhouette of the lumen, whereas IVUS allows tomographic assessment of lumen area, plaque size, distribution, and composition.

According to experts the range of lumen stenosis locations at which myocardial infarctions occur range from areas of acute dilatation all the way to areas of greater than 95% stenosis. However, the average or typical stenoses at which myocardial infarctions occur were found to be less than 50%. Only 14% of the heart attacks occurred at locations with 75% or more due to stenosis. Overall this research has changed the primary focus of heart attack from severe narrowing to vulnerable plaque. According to WHO, it has been estimated that around 17.3 million people died from CVDs in 2008, representing 30% of all the global deaths. Of these deaths, an estimated 7.3 million were due to coronary heart disease and 6.2 million were due to stroke.

The IVUS market can be segmented on the basis of products and applications:
  • Products
    • IVUS Consoles
    • IVUS Catheters
    • IVUS Accessories market ( pullback devices, guidewires, others)
  • Applications
    • IVUS coronary diagnostic market
    • IVUS coronary intervention market
    • IVUS coronary research market
    • IVUS non-coronary /peripheral applications market

Some of the major market drivers of Intravascular Ultrasound Devices market are sedentary lifestyle, increasing incidence and prevalence of cardiovascular diseases rising obese population and aging population. Some of the major restraining factors of this market are high cost of diagnostic devices and lack of uniform reimbursement policies. Most of the market experts expect that future research and developments activities in the field will enhance the application range and efficiency of IVUS as it’s currently at initial stage.

Asia-Pacific market was observed to be the leading IVUS market as Japan represents the largest regional market for intravascular ultrasound worldwide. This was observed due to efficient reimbursement rate and practice pattern in this country. Asia-Pacific was also observed to be the most growing market. North America was observed to be the second largest IVUS market globally as according to Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 5.1 million people in the United States have heart failure and it costs the nation an estimated USD 32 billion each year. High intake of fats through food and lack of physical activities has increased the obese population in North America. Comparatively, reimbursements offered for IVUS in the U.S. are lower and vary significantly among regions of the country. IVUS usage in Europe is also struggling due to the lack of reimbursements in many countries across the region. Rest of the World (RoW) was also observed to be the growing geographic region after Asia-Pacific, especially Latin America and gulf countries were observed to be the major markets for IVUS.

Some of the major key players of the market are Volcano Corporation, Boston Scientific Corporation, Terumo Corporation, Siemens Healthcare, Silicon Valley Medical Instruments Inc., Avinger Inc., InfraReDx Inc., eV3 Endovascular, Inc. (Covedien), among others.

Transparency Market Research Reports incorporated a definite business overview and investigation inclines on "Stent Grafts Market". This report likewise incorporates more illumination about fundamental review of the business including definitions, requisitions and worldwide business sector industry structure.

A stent graft is a tube shaped device composed of a rigid structure called a stent (mostly a metal) and a special fabric covering the stent. A stent is a metal mesh without any covering but a stent graft has a fabric covering and is mainly used in endovascular surgeries.

A stent graft is used to repair abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in a procedure called as endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). In EVAR, a stent graft is placed inside the aorta through which the blood flows uninterruptedly, instead of flowing through the aneurysm sack which is the weak point. Stent grafts can be categorized into two major segments, namely, bifurcated and aorta-uni-iliac (AUI) stent grafts. The stent grafts market can also be segmented into abdominal and thoracic aortic stent grafts.

The growth drivers for the stent grafts market are increasing acceptance of EVAR procedures worldwide, increasing efforts for creating awareness about aneurysms, rising demand for minimally invasive endovascular surgeries, aging population and rising incidences of diseases like obesity and diabetes. An Overview of the Minimally Invasive Vertebral Compression Fracture Repair Market

Vertebral invasive compression fractures, also commonly called spine fractures, occur when the bony block or the vertebrae in our spine suffers crack or gets deformed.

Vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) are the most common fractures in people with osteoporosis or low bone density. Though osteoporosis is considered the major reason behind such fractures, forms of metastatic tumors and extensive trauma such as an accident, a hard fall or a sports injury can also lead to such fractures.

The placement of such fractures that commonly happens to be the thoracic spine (middle portion of the spine), especially in its lower parts, makes the condition more complex as no plasters can be applied there. The patient with such fractures suffers from many issues such as sudden onset of back pain, limited spinal mobility making it difficult to walk or stand straight, eventual height loss, deformity and disability in many cases.

While non-surgical methods like medicines, exercise bracing and bed-rest are widely prevalent for curing VCFs, two newly evolved surgical methods: kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty are becoming widely popular for treating complex cases where non-surgical methods fail to benefit. These methods have less seen very less post-surgery complications rates, as less as 2% and are proving to be reasons for significant pain release and rise in physical functioning of the patients.

Kyphoplasty signifies a technique in which a balloon like inflatable object (called the bone tamp) is first placed in the fracture to restore the height of the derogated vertebrae. This is followed by a percutaneous injection of bone cement direct on the fracture.

Vertebroplasty, on the other hand, is a process in which a direct percutaneous injection of bone cement is given on the vertebral fracture.

Both the techniques involve minimal invasion in the fractured area and so the name minimally invasive vertebral compression fracture repair techniques.
Among these two techniques, kyphoplasty is more popular than vertebroplasty, owing to the additional benefits of restoration of vertebral height of the latter. In 2011, the global market for kyphoplasty was worth USD 555.4 million.

The market for minimally invasive vertebral compression fracture repair, particularly by the virtue of Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty is hugely flourishing. It is estimated to reach a value of USD 2.82 billion in 2019 with a growth rate of 8.7% through the years 2013 to 2019. The value of this industry was about USD 1.58 billion in 2012, with US being the key player and developing economies such as China, Japan, India, Korea estimated as the potentially emerging markets.
